When Dwight Eisenhower was requested if the USA ought to have a army parade, he responded this manner:
“Completely not. we’re the pre-eminent energy on Earth. For us to attempt to imitate what the Soviets are doing in Pink Sq. would make us look weak.”
Our energy doesn’t lie in our potential to destroy anybody or something. Our energy lies in our potential to assist individuals dwell higher lives. And that’s why what’s occurring as of late is so deeply disempowering. We’re seeing a perversion of the values that certainly did make America nice.
Ah, what we might have performed during the last fifty years to broaden individuals’s alternatives, whereas as a substitute we labored so steadily to decrease them. Deflecting consideration onto a army parade that may price taxpayers $25M to $45 is obscene, when the federal government actually took meals from the mouths of hungry kids as a result of they are saying we waste an excessive amount of cash. This parade is not going to be a celebration of our army; it is going to be a celebration of our battle machine. The arms producers. What in DC is named “The Blob.” These kids, and our veterans, be damned.
Does it need to be this manner? No. And on the opposite facet of this twisted period, I pray that it’s going to not be.
