How the Patriot Act Impacted Communities of Color

Tomorrow marks the twentieth anniversary of the assaults on the World Commerce Middle in New York Metropolis.

Ever since that tragic day, nationwide safety has turn out to be a justification for surveillance and the train of police energy in America.

The Patriot Act was handed 45 days after the assaults, and the worry of terrorism was used to justify surveillance and overpolicing of Black, Brown and Muslim American communities.

Officers have used 9/11 to justify a number of human rights and civil liberties violations and are spending massive quantities of cash on surveillance strategies.

Jennifer Granick, surveillance and cybersecurity counsel for the ACLU’s Speech, Privateness and Expertise Mission, joins Yodit Tewolde on “Making the Case” to debate this difficulty.
