Bill In Congress Would Outlaw Gun Taxes, Insurance Requirements

We’ve chronicled over the previous few years how anti-gun politicians in some liberal states have tried—generally efficiently—to bolster their state finances on the backs of lawful gun and ammunition purchasers. In reality, California now levies an 11% excise tax on weapons and ammunition, and  Colorado residents should pay an additional 6.5% tax on weapons, ammo and equipment.

Different states and municipalities have tried to move laws requiring gun homeowners to buy costly legal responsibility insurance coverage insurance policies for firearms they personal. In reality, in 2022, San Jose, California, handed a statute forcing gun homeowners to pay an annual payment and buy legal responsibility insurance coverage to cowl damages from unintentional or negligent use of their firearms.

Now, a Texas Congressman is trying to place an finish to the development of punishing gun homeowners for exercising a constitutional proper. On February 4, U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, launched the “No Consumer Price For Gun Homeowners Act,” which might prohibit any state or native authorities from requiring insurance coverage, taxes, person charges or comparable burdensome costs as a situation for the continued possession of firearms, pistols or revolvers.

“The unconventional Left has been making an attempt to chip away at our Constitutional rights for years, significantly the precise to bear arms,” Rep. Jackson stated in a press launch asserting the measure. “The Founding Fathers included the Second Modification to make sure residents may defend themselves. That’s why I’m reintroducing the No Consumer Charges for Gun Homeowners Act, to cease liberal Democrat state and native governments from forcing gun homeowners to pay further insurance coverage or taxes meant to restrict gun possession and make it too expensive for the typical American to train their Second Modification proper.”

In keeping with Jackson, primarily based on the outcomes of final November’s election, when Republicans held the bulk within the Home and recaptured the Senate and presidency, now could be the time for such a measure.

“Below President Trump’s management and a Republican-controlled Congress, we’ve got an opportunity to return to our nation’s founding ideas and shield Individuals’ Second Modification rights for generations to return,” he stated.

The language of the invoice states: “A State, or unit of native authorities of a State, could not impose any insurance coverage requirement, or any tax, person payment, or different comparable cost, as a situation of the manufacture, importation, acquisition, switch, or continued possession of a firearm or ammunition, besides {that a} typically relevant gross sales tax could also be assessed towards firearms or ammunition in the identical proportion to which the tax applies to different items or companies.”

One other part of the invoice particularly addresses handguns.

“A State, or unit of native authorities of a State, could not impose any insurance coverage requirement, or any tax, person payment, or different comparable cost, as a situation of the manufacture, importation, acquisition, switch, or continued possession of a firearm, pistol, or revolver, besides {that a} typically relevant gross sales tax could also be assessed towards firearms, pistols, or revolvers in the identical proportion to which the tax applies to different items 11 or companies.”

The measure at the moment has 38 co-sponsors within the Home of Representatives.
