A person shot in self-defense at his household’s enterprise in Greenville, North Carolina, didn’t must be transported far for his closing preparations. The person, Terence Rountree, Jr. was shot and killed by a member of the family after a dispute with the relative turned violent within the funeral house the household owns and operates.

Round 4 p.m. on Sept. 6, a Greenville police officer was flagged down by a person who informed them any individual close by had been shot, WITN reported. Police descended upon Rountree Household Mortuary the place they discovered the 34-year-old affected by a gunshot wound that in the end proved deadly. Rountree was the son of the mortuary’s house owners. Information reviews didn’t disclose which member of the family shot him nor what the relation of that member of the family was to the deceased Rountree.

The Pitt County District Lawyer dominated on Sept. 13, one week after the capturing, that no expenses could be filed within the matter.

A funeral service was held for Rountree Monday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at Philippi Church of Christ in Greenville with a viewing the prior night from 2-7 p.m., sarcastically, within the very funeral house the place he was shot and killed.

There have been apparently no onerous emotions towards the deceased following no matter violent encounter led to the justified capturing because the household posted a brief, however variety obituary together with a video of the person’s life on their web site:

It’s with profound sorrow that the Rountree household announce the transition of their dearly beloved Terence Eduardo Rountree, Jr., age 34, of Greenville, North Carolina.  The Public Viewing can be held Sunday, September 15, 2024, 2:00 PM til 7;00 PM at Rountree Household Mortuary & Cremation Service, 1206 Dickinson Avenue, Greenville, North Carolina 27834. Mr. Rountree can be laid to relaxation in Homestead Memorial Gardens, 4251 E. tenth Avenue, Greenville, North Carolina 27858.

In one other twist within the already unusual story, Rountree’s dying was posted on the Nationwide Gun Violence Memorial, an internet site that claims to maintain a tally of “People Killed With Weapons,” apparently with none distinction of whether or not the dying was a justified (defensive) shootings, murder, suicide or unintended.

The positioning’s About Web page states: On a median day, 108 persons are shot useless in the US (together with suicides, homicides and accidents). This can be a surprising statistic, however it’s straightforward to neglect that these are human beings, not simply numbers. Steve began the Nationwide Gun Violence Memorial in December of 2015 to humanize the issue by exhibiting victims’ faces and telling their tales. It’s now a group effort led by a number of devoted volunteers and with contributions from 1000’s of tourists.

Whereas guests to the location can submit a posting via the group’s Fb web page, the location additionally says it pulls from the oft-criticized Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which lumps capturing knowledge along with little to no distinction on the kind of capturing it was. The GVA doesn’t distinguish if a capturing was defensive or not. Rountree’s dying was listed on the GVA.
