NSSF Fires Back at Bloomberg’s The Trace Hit Piece

NSSF Fires Back at Bloomberg’s The Trace Hit Piece
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Leaders on the Nationwide Taking pictures Sports activities Basis (NSSF) are pleased with their partnership with the American Basis for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and rightly so. Because the firearm trade commerce affiliation, NSSF has an obligation to assist save lives and is proud to satisfy this obligation.

So, it’s comprehensible {that a} current hit piece printed at thetrace.com, the Michael Bloomberg-funded propaganda arm of so-called Everytown for Gun Security, raised the ire of these on the NSSF.

In a report headlined “Everytown’s Propaganda Arm Places Gun Management Over Saving Lives,” NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi laid into The Hint and author Mike Spies, whom NSSF has spotlighted up to now for his anti-gun slant to just about every little thing he writes.

“Everytown for Gun Security’s propaganda arm—The Hint—is proving that they’re extra taken with fomenting an phantasm of battle than recognizing the significance of saving lives,” Bartozzi wrote within the report. “It’s greater than unlucky. It’s appalling and disgusting, in all honesty.”

As Bartozzi identified, Spies framed the connection as self-serving and insinuated nefarious intent.

“For AFSP, it was a potent rallying cry for potential donors and volunteers—a transparent, galvanizing mission that may very well be achieved with sufficient assist,” Spies wrote. “For the NSSF, the partnership solid the commerce group and the trade it represents as proactive, even maybe on the expense of revenue, and worthy of goodwill from lawmakers, regulators and adversaries.”

Bartozzi and different NSSF leaders expressed anger at Spies for questioning their motives in a partnership designed to avoid wasting lives.

“Let me be completely clear: NSSF and AFSP cast this relationship to forestall the tragedy of suicide,” Bartozzi wrote. “NSSF acknowledges that greater than half of suicide deaths contain a firearm. That’s unacceptable—particularly when the consultants on this area inform us that suicide is preventable. The firearm trade desires to be a part of the answer. Nevertheless, we acknowledge that we aren’t suicide prevention consultants.”

On the flip facet, Bartozzi wrote, AFSP is strictly that.

“Likewise, AFSP is—by definition—wholly devoted to lowering and finally eliminating suicide by all means,” Bartozzi wrote. “The connection introduced the 2 organizations collectively to supply actual options to a vexing downside. The trigger is noble. It’s proper. Neither I nor the NSSF will abandon our efforts to avoid wasting lives, irrespective of the ginned-up criticism by an anti-gun group that’s bent on denying lawful firearm possession to all Individuals.”

Finally, Bartozzi wrote, The Hint is ignorant about each weapons and suicides, which isn’t all that stunning given the unsuitable sides it takes on practically each subject involving firearms.

“Everytown and The Hint’s criticism isn’t simply unfounded, it’s abhorrent,” Bartozzi concluded. “Within the estimation of the gun management group, the one reply is to eradicate gun possession in America. Gun management teams lump suicides along with the prison misuse of a firearm as a ‘gun violence’ subject. The truth is that suicide is a posh downside. Regardless of The Hint’s disparagement, suicide isn’t a ‘gun’ subject.”
