Final month, Representatives August Pfluger (R-TX) and Jared Golden (D-ME) launched the bipartisan “Defending Individuals’ Proper to Silence Act of 2024” (PARTS Act), H.R. 10145, which seeks to modernize and make clear the federal definition of firearm suppressors beneath the Gun Management Act. Supported by Silencer Store and the American Suppressor Affiliation (ASA), the invoice is designed to deal with outdated regulatory language, streamline the acquisition course of for authorized silencer house owners, and defend towards potential overreach by federal businesses.

Modernizing Suppressor Definitions

The PARTS Act proposes refining the definition of a suppressor to concentrate on full units and one principal element—just like how a firearm’s body or receiver is outlined—as an alternative of the present broad language, which incorporates “a mix of elements” or “any half supposed just for use” in a suppressor.
