Joe Kent shared his journey from Ranger Battalion to Particular Forces on The Shawn Ryan Present, highlighting the challenges of leaving the elite unit and the affect of 9/11 on his coaching.

Leaving Ranger Battalion

Kent described the stigma of leaving Ranger Battalion: “The one accepted motive to depart Battalion was such as you both acquired picked up for Delta otherwise you died. When you left for another motive, you have been like a horrible traitor.”

Earlier than heading to Particular Forces choice, management made the stakes clear: “When you don’t move, you don’t have a job right here anymore.”

9/11 and Motivation

Kent was in Particular Forces choice when the 9/11 assaults occurred. At first, he thought it was a coaching state of affairs: “I’m considering like, that’s bizarre, like is there a state of affairs… as a result of, you recognize, you do coaching missions.”

When instructors introduced in TVs and allowed candidates to name family members, the fact set in. “That makes it actual,” Kent stated.

The assaults motivated him but in addition created worry of lacking fight.

“I used to be afraid I used to be going to overlook it… am I going to be out right here rucking round within the woods making an attempt to get into SF whereas my Ranger Battalion is leaping into fight?”

Particular Forces Choice Challenges

Kent discovered the isolation throughout choice powerful.

“You’re alone for lots of it… not getting any suggestions… am I doing this proper?” he defined. He later appreciated the independence: “It’s sort of all on me whether or not I succeed or fail.”

His reflections provide a uncommon glimpse into the mindset and challenges of these pursuing Particular Forces.
