New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signs gun laws after string of shootings | USA TODAY

Gov. Kathy Hochul signed 10 gun-related payments, together with one which is able to prohibit New Yorkers beneath the age of 21 from shopping for semi-automatic rifles.

New Yorkers beneath age 21 shall be prohibited from shopping for semiautomatic rifles beneath a brand new regulation signed Monday by Gov. Kathy Hochul, making the state one of many first to enact a serious gun management initiative following a wave of lethal mass shootings. Hochul, a Democrat, signed 10 public safety-related payments, together with one that can require microstamping in new firearms, which may assist regulation enforcement resolve gun-related crimes.

One other revised the state’s “crimson flag” regulation, which permits courts to briefly take away weapons from individuals who may be a menace to themselves or others. “In New York, we’re taking daring, robust motion. We’re tightening crimson flag legal guidelines to maintain weapons away from harmful individuals,” Hochul mentioned at a press convention within the Bronx.
